Huntington House is a Dragonfly accredited care home
In fact, it’s the first accredited Dragonfly home in the country and is currently the only level one rated Dragonfly home in the world.
A Dragonfly Care Home
Specialising in nursing and residential care, Huntington House is truly a place you can call home. When you visit us, the first things you’ll see and sense are the personalities of every resident at Huntington House. This is because we believe that their bedroom should not be the only room they can call their home. Every individual has the choice to make their mark throughout Huntington House, so you will find treasured possessions scattered beyond the rooms of the residents, filling our home with love, character and joy.
About the Dragonfly Approach
The Dragonfly approach caters for all care cultures, such as palliative care, mental health, learning disability, and health and social care. Developed by Meaningful Care Matters, the Dragonfly approach is about the ‘whole person’. While traditional care focuses primarily around clinical needs, the Dragonfly approach gives control back to the person who is being cared for and values the person on an emotional and social level, meaning each person is “free to be me”.
Traditional care can be very task-orientated tick-boxing, e.g. “Make the bed”, “Give them breakfast”, “Medication administered”. A Dragonfly care home values emotional intelligence, domestic living and respects that each individual has a story – they have meaning and they matter. We support them to write the next chapter of their story.
Dragonfly Care at Huntington House
Huntington House is the epitome of Dragonfly care. We are the first Dragonfly care home in the UK and we are the only level one Dragonfly care home. Dragonfly care starts with happy and motivated staff. Our team is vast – we have carers, nurses, housekeepers, cooks, receptionists, gardeners – and they’ve all been handpicked with loving care because they demonstrate the values of Dragonfly. We empower our team to “bring all of themselves” to work and we encourage them to connect, to love and to care with every member of our household.
Dragonfly Living at Huntington House
This translates into a caring culture at Huntington House that makes every interaction meaningful. That’s why we employ more staff than most care homes – so that we can give unconditional time and love to each person and focus on what’s important to them, and not just their clinical needs. For example, getting dressed in the morning is meaningful. It involves a conversation and ensures that each person has full autonomy over the choices they make, starting with what they’re going to wear today, or if they decide to stay in their pyjamas!
Dragonfly Life is Home-from-Home
We work hard to replicate what home life has always been like and we empower each person to continue living how they wish to, with family-style dining experiences and we specialise in adapting everyday life so they can continue to experience everything that is important to them, which could be feeling and looking good; getting exercise and fresh air; enjoying their favourite hobbies or taking part in group and social events. Some homes refer to activities and interests, we prefer to talk about life and living.
"Huntington House and all the staff have provided fabulous care for my mother throughout the years she has been here. Everyone is considerate, kind and compassionate to a degree that makes one realise it is not just an institution. My mother is incredibly fortunate to be here. The food and facilities and entertainment are all excellent."
